Frisco ISD board of trustees meets Monday

The board of trustees will discuss adopting FISD District of Innovation plan and a resolution against the state's new A-F accountability system. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the FISD Administration Building, 5515 Ohio Drive.

FISD must adopt a plan to become a DOI, a designation that would allow the district to have more local control through exemptions from the Texas Education Code. By becoming a DOI, FISD could have more flexibility on certain state regulations, such as the school year calendar, teacher certifications and minutes of instruction.

The board will also vote on a resolution asking the Texas Legislature to repeal the new A-F accountability system and allow districts to design their own internal accountability systems. The A-F system grades districts on five different domains using the letter grades of A, B, C, D or F. The preliminary ratings released in January show that FISD received a C in the domain that measures students' postsecondary readiness.

The hospital is expected to open in 2019. Texas Health Resources does not yet have a hospital campus in Frisco, but the nonprofit health care system does have a behavioral health center, a sports medicine clinic and freestanding emergency rooms in Frisco.
