The two-year lease agreement between the National Videogame Museum and the Frisco Community Development Corp. is set to expire in October.
During the FCDC July 21 meeting, city staff and the board discussed the lease agreement and the possibility of extending it.
The NVM entered into the lease agreement with FCDC on Oct. 16, 2014, for the back-of-house space at the Frisco Discovery Center. According to city staff, the first year and a half were spent under construction.
The NVM did not open to the public until April 2 after being delayed several months. The original opening date was November 2015.
In the lease agreement, the NVM agreed to begin planning for a “version 2.0” of the museum, which means more space and more exhibits. As the FCDC discusses the lease extension further, "version 2.0" will have to be looked at again.
Assistant City Manager Nell Lange said NVM would have to be open at least a year before it can start fundraising for "version 2.0."
City staff will bring a more in-depth report about the lease extension to next month's meeting Aug. 18.
Under other agenda items, the FCDC also approved the master development agreement for The Gate.
The agreement calls for the development to have several structures—including restaurant, retail, hotel and Class A office space—in place before 2021.
The Frisco Economic Development Corp. approved the agreement during its July 20 meeting.
