The Frisco Planning and Zoning Commission approved a series of temporary buildings for several Frisco ISD elementary schools and Lone Star High School during a regular meeting Tuesday evening.
“Lone Star High School three years ago didn’t even have a senior class, and now all of a sudden they’re needing temporary buildings,” Commissioner Will Russell said Tuesday in response as to how much the school district has grown.
According to demographics company Population and Survey Analysts, FISD ranks No. 1 in a list of fastest growing school districts in Texas.
FISD adds about 2,500 to 3,500 new students a year. Since 1993 the district has grown from 2,000 students to more than 50,000 students. In the next five years, FISD projects the number of students to increase to about 69,000 students.
For the upcoming school year, FISD will be opening four new schools, Miller Elementary School, Vaughn Elementary School, Nelson Middle School and Lebanon Trail High School.
Elementary schools serve 700-plus students, middle schools serve 800 to 1,000 students and high schools serve up to 2,100 students.
