A Jan. 19 news release from the online protection company McAfee Corp. announced it would begin moving into facilities at The Star in mid-2023.

“What a win for Frisco,” Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney said in a news release. “As an innovation-focused Smart City, we know how important online protection is. We are proud to have a global leader like McAfee regionally headquartered in Frisco.”

McAfee is just one of many companies making a move to Frisco. Boingo Wireless, a California-based cellular company, announced in December 2022 its regional headquarters would open at The Star with plans to eventually adopt Frisco as its corporate headquarters.

In August 2022, telecommunications company ExteNet Systems announced it would relocate to Frisco Station from Illinois in early 2023.

McAfee officials said in the release the future partnership between the city and company would seek to directly benefit the community.

“Our decision to choose Frisco for our regional HQ was also based on the diverse cultural destination the city has become, and the many opportunities our team members will have to be immersed in the community and to give back to the many nonprofit organizations here,” said Benni Bueckert, McAfee’s vice president of workplace and engagement, in the release.

McAfee’s corporate headquarters is currently located in San Jose, California. The cybersecurity company was first founded in 1987 by John McAfee and bought by Intel in 2011.
