Each location includes images from the community it serves. In the case of the Frisco location, customers will see the Frisco Water Tower, local museums and “zombified” sports figures.
“When you come here, everything is monsterized,” co-owner Holly Hernandez said. “It’s all about monsters, fun and being a little spooky.”
Hernandez added that part of the Monster Mini Golf appeal was her husband, Brian’s, love of horror and monster films.
A fun family outing in Las Vegas changed the career course of the Hernandez family when they discovered Monster Mini Golf, a unique indoor, monster-themed venue with 30 locations across the U.S. and Canada. The couple bought a franchise in 2016. They quit their jobs in February 2020 with plans to open the following month. However, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed that opening until June 2020.
Hernandez said, despite the rocky start, opening the business was one of her best decisions.
“This new venture has allowed me to stay home and work, and play with my family,” she said.
The venue also includes an arcade, mini-bowling with balls the size of grapefruits, a virtual reality roller-coaster and a laser maze.
The couple’s children have had an active role in the business, often serving as the golf course DJ, as the arcade game technician, as a party host or at the prize counter.
Hernandez said the business has continued to grow through community support.
“The pandemic brought out a lot of families who wanted to support family businesses like ours,” she said.
