The city of Frisco has approved nearly $4.68 million in contracts for the construction of Frisco on the Green.
Frisco on the Green is a 27-acre, nature-focused park project along Teel Parkway that preserves local wetlands and provides environmental education and community green space.
During an Aug. 18 meeting, the Frisco City Council approved two separate contracts for the park’s construction, one for general park construction and site improvements and one for the construction of a playground.
Breaking it down
The first contract to Millis Development and Construction is for $2.81 million and includes the trails, lawns, basketball court, picnic area, landscaping, irrigation, lighting and other park infrastructure. Within the contract, the city set aside $375,000 for potential construction changes, including the project’s field changes or quantity adjustments.
The second contract with KOMPAN details the park’s playground, including $1.86 million for the installation of new playground equipment and safety surfaces designed for children ages 2-5 and 5-12.
At a previous meeting, city officials said a key feature planned for the park is a large pavilion with a waterside lookout and deck. The pavilion will include an 800-square-foot classroom and an 800-square-foot forest-side observation platform. Also planned for the park is a wetland landing area equipped with a boardwalk system and a gathering space.
“Frisco on the Green is designed to provide a blend of relaxed and active outdoor experiences, creating a welcoming environment where informal play, pickup games and community gatherings naturally occur throughout the landscape,” city documents state.
The history
Frisco on the Green was first introduced and named by the city in December 2020, followed by a design concept presentation in April 2021.
In 2022, the city hosted an open house presenting renderings for Frisco on the Green. Residents spoke with city officials, giving their input on the park’s alignment with the city’s vision.
One more thing
Construction of the park amenities is expected to begin in September and last approximately 12 months, according to city documents. A construction timeline for the playground has not been established.
Upon completion, Frisco on the Green will be located near the intersection of Teel Parkway and Rockhill Parkway in the southern portion of the Hollyhock subdivision.
