The Frisco Economic Development Corp. has filled a new role that city officials say will help encourage new investment, business and jobs in the city.

Jasmin Brand, the FEDC’s first director of innovation, began her new role on March 14, according to a news release shared by the organization on March 24. Brand has more than 16 years of experience in fields, such as digital media, entrepreneurship, strategic collaboration and partnership development, the release states.

Before joining the FEDC, Brand launched a number of ventures, such as a Dallas-based agency specializing in “culturally rich content” and experiential events. Moreover, she is the founder of Her Texas, which the FEDC described as a “tech-driven, statewide platform” providing women in Texas with networking, education and leadership opportunities.

Brand has a bachelor’s degree in international studies and political science with double minors in English and French from Southern Methodist University, the release states. In May 2021, she graduated from Babson College’s Black Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership program.

“It’s an exciting time to join the Frisco team and to help build Frisco’s innovation ecosystem,” Brand said. “The efforts around startups, technology and venture capital we build today will create a bright future for our workforce and the residents of Frisco. I look forward to playing a key role in the city’s future.”

Brand is responsible for “technology-focused, proactive business attraction” and retention initiatives. In addition, Brand will collaborate with Jason Cooley, the city’s chief innovation officer, to attract venture capitalists and “regional innovation activities.”

Cooley said Brand will aid the city’s goal of municipal innovation to aid residents in the city.

“These collaborative efforts will enhance the city’s vision regarding innovative technologies for the future of Frisco,” he said in the release.

FEDC President Jason Ford praised Brand for an “incredible” background in sales and marketing.

“Her skills help us grow Frisco’s innovation economy,” Ford said in the release. “Jasmin’s approach to relationships and building collaborative partnerships will showcase Frisco as a vibrant hub for venture capital and innovation activity.”
