From children’s birthday parties to corporate team building events, Kartland Performance Indoor Raceway has something for everyone, according to co-owner Kim Sheehy.
Sheehy and her husband, Frank, bought the go-karting facility on John W. Elliott Drive in Frisco in February 2018. The 50,000-square-foot facility offers indoor team and individual racing on electric go-karts.
Karts are available for children as young as 6 years old, Sheehy said. Adult karts can reach a speed of 45 miles per hour.
“We do cater across all ages,” she said.
Groups can get “very competitive,” Sheehy said, as they have the opportunity to race a Grand Prix and earn trophies and medals for their race times.
Uncommon to many local karting facilities, Sheehy said, the barriers on Kartland’s track are movable, which creates a unique experience for regular racers.
“About every three months or four months, we actually mix the track up so that we can cater to our returning customers that are looking for a new challenge,” she said.
While the facility brings in many young racers, Sheehy said Kartland hosts adult leagues as well.
“We are not a family fun center atmosphere,” she said. “Whereas for some of our competitors, it’s kind of a Main Event, with go-karts as one of those options. Our focus is truly hardcore go-karting.”
Kartland offers a STEM program for educational groups, such as scouts or home-school students. An instructor teaches about motion, velocity and speed, and then, the groups race on the track to reinforce the subjects they learn about, Sheehy said.
“We think with all the kids home-schooling, this could be an option for folks,” she said.
No matter what kind of racer enters the facility, Sheehy said Kartland can adjust for a variety of groups.
“We just structure the racing differently based on the age group and experience level,” she said.
