Business is still thriving for Summer Moon Coffee, one of the Rail District’s most popular coffee shops, according to its owner.

Summer Moon’s Frisco location is typically the busiest of the coffee house’s three Dallas Fort-Worth shops, owner Greg Richardson said, and residents are still showing up since the location shifted to-go only, he said.

“When we look at how the community has responded, we’ve still been getting a lot of support from the Frisco community,” Richardson said. “And it’s been really strong.”

Effective about a week ago, the Main Street location has outside-only service after previously allowing customers to enter the store to put in to-go orders, Richardson said.

“We were getting some rushes with a larger volume of people coming in, and we didn’t feel that was a good situation for public safety,” Richardson said.

There are now tables outside the store for walk-up ordering, Richardson said, along with markers on the ground to encourage social distancing.

In addition to outdoor walk-up service, customers can receive curbside service via online ordering, Richardson said. Curbside service would normally not be possible at the Frisco location due to space constraints, he said.

“Because our neighbors have had to shut down, we have more parking available,” Richardson said.

While Summer Moon in Frisco has been able to remain open, other Rail District businesses have been forced to shut down. But Richardson said the downtown merchants have been able to lean on one another, Richardson said.

“The moral support is really strong in the community, and people genuinely care about each other and want to help cross-promote one another,” he said.

Shifts in service have proved beneficial to keeping sales going at Summer Moon in Frisco, Richardson said. Online orders currently account for nearly 70% of sales, he said, and no staff members have been laid off.

“It’s been just amazing to see how loyal our guests are and how they’re coming on a regular basis,” Richardson said.
