Those with children who play soccer or who love soccer have probably visited Soccer City on Main Street. The soccer specialty store opened 10 years ago in Frisco. Jamey Stiglets and Todd Hightower decided to purchase the business two years ago. “My kids are all heavily involved in soccer, and I’ve been working in retail for over 30 years,” Stiglets said. “It just seemed like a right fit.” Stiglets said taking on the business presented some challenges, but the store had a lot of opportunities because of its location. The store is 0.4 miles east from Toyota Stadium, home of professional soccer club FC Dallas and The National Soccer Hall of Fame, which opens Oct. 20. “When you look at the location, the 20-mile radius, we’re the No. 1 area for soccer,” Stiglets said. “The participation as well as visibility is high here. Tournaments are constantly being held here that bring in people from outside the local area.” Stiglets said there are three business areas of Soccer City: retail, printing services and uniforms. For retail, Soccer City carries only soccer equipment and fanwear. There’s also a print shop on the second floor of the store. The store also has its own uniform business, in which it provides uniforms for youth soccer associations in the area. “We’ve gone after that specialty boutique mentality, which means you don’t see a lot of what we have here in [big sporting goods stores],” Stiglets said. Almost all of the employees in the store either play or have played soccer and speak both English and Spanish. Stiglets said it is important for the employees to know the sport to best help customers. Stiglets said there are plans to expand retail and warehousing as well as add a new print shop. “We are a specialty store, we’re soccer, and hopefully people perceive us as a place to come that’s fun and exciting for them because we have [items] here that they don’t see often,” Stiglets said.
