Cork & Growler is a reflection of three of Vincent and Carmelle Martinez’s passions: craft beer, their family and dogs. The couple opened Cork & Growler in September with more than 40 taps for craft beer and wine. One of the objectives for Vincent and Carmelle is to educate people on craft beer. “Right now 12 percent of beer drinkers are craft beer drinkers,” Carmelle said. “We want to get people in that have never had a craft beer and introduce them to something they love. … That’s really our goal in our business is just to educate and having people drink better beer.” Vincent said he wants customers to feel comfortable visiting Cork & Growler even if they do not know a lot about craft beer. “We’re friendly and have a fun atmosphere; knowledgeable but not pretentious,” he said. “I fully know what it’s like stepping into a place and kind of being intimidated by the beers, and maybe the staff’s not as welcoming and informing me about different types of beers.” Customers who want to take a beer home can either bring a growler or buy a growler at the bar. Growlers sold at the bar range in size up to 64 ounces. Carmelle said the bar will soon offer crowlers, which is the canned version of a growler. For canines, Cork & Growler offers dog beer and treats. The dog beer, which is nonalcoholic and noncarbonated, is made with strawberries and molasses. All dogs are allowed on the patio, and service dogs are allowed inside the bar. The bar hosts family-friendly events, such as trivia night each Thursday and dog adoptions. Guests are also invited to bring their own food or visit one of the food trucks that are available twice a month. “We want this to be the neighborhood bar that people come to, and then they actually end up enjoying craft beer and actually drinking craft beer,” Carmelle said.
