Construction could begin later this year on intersection improvements at FM 2499 and FM 3040.
Flower Mound Town Council unanimously approved a project contract worth over $2.82 million with Boyd-based 2L Construction during the March 2 meeting.
The overview
The project is aimed at improving the traffic flow at the intersection of FM 2499 and FM 3040, said Dale Crown, Flower Mound’s assistant director of engineering. According to town documents, each direction of travel will have dual left-turn lanes, three through lanes and a dedicated right-turn lane.
Crews will also add a dedicated right-turn lane into a nearby Chick-fil-A to alleviate congestion, Crown said.
“In the past, we’ve had traffic for the drive-thru back up into the main lanes,” Crown said. “This, in combination with the improvements they’ve made with circulation within the Chick-fil-A site, will go a long way.”

The town will receive funding from Denton County for the project, Crown said. Denton County commissioners approved an interlocal agreement Feb. 3, which covers a reimbursement to Flower Mound for the project for up to $3.5 million.
The $3.5 million comes from a previous allocation for work on Kirkpatrick Lane in Flower Mound, which was funded through the county’s transportation bond, Trip-22, according to county documents.
Looking ahead
Crown said a notice for 2L Construction to start work could be issued in May, with a projected completion in July 2027. Crews are expected to have restricted lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. during construction, Crown added.
