There are five transportation projects that are either slated to begin in 2026 or are already underway in Flower Mound and Highland Village.

Upcoming projects

1. FM 2499 and FM 3040 intersection improvements

Project: Reconfiguration to provide a dual left turn, three thru lanes, and a dedicated right turn lane for each direction, while maintaining the dual right turn lanes for eastbound traffic.

Update: Flower Mound Town Council approved an interlocal agreement to obtain funding from Denton County for the project. Council members are expected to approve a further $500,000 to the projected $3 million project cost through a Capital Improvement Plan amendment, officials said.

2. Highland Village Road


Project: Replacing the asphalt pavement and enhancing safety from Brazos Boulevard to Kansas City Southern Railroad.

Update: Council approved selling certificates of obligation to fund the project.

  • Timeline: Beginning in spring 2026
3. Highland Shores Boulevard

Project: Replacing the asphalt pavement and enhancing safety from Briarhill Boulevard to Twin Coves Drive.

Update: Council approved selling certificates of obligation to fund the project.

4. Churchill Drive

Project: Concrete panel repairs along the 2700 block of Churchill Drive, west of FM 2499.

Update: Construction crews began repairs in mid-September.

  • Timeline: Sept. 12-mid-October
5. Wichita Trail Phase 2

Project: The entire project, which includes 2 phases, covers the reconstruction of Wichita Trail between 550 feet south of Cardinal Drive and Bayshore Drive.


Update: After completing the first phase of the project, construction crews have moved onto the second phase that covers repairs between High Meadow Drive and Bayshore.
