The overview
The additional work on Frenchtown Road includes repairing the road and removing concrete in the eastbound lane on either side of the Indian Trail intersection, according to town documents.
Initial work on Frenchtown Road started July 14, but town officials realized there was more work needed than what was originally laid out in the first contract, Argyle’s Public Works Director Bobby Johnston said.
“As [construction workers] started removing panels that were busted, [town officials] realized other areas that were taking on rainwater under the panels that we were originally hoping could be left,” Johnston said.
The approved agreement with DDM Construction includes a $46,000 base contract and an additional $10,000 in case there are more unseen problems the contractor discovers, according to town documents. The project will be funded through the town’s street maintenance fund.
The road repairs started the week of July 21 and are scheduled to finish before the beginning of school Aug. 12, per town documents. A temporary traffic signal is currently on Frenchtown Road while repairs occur, Johnston said.
The contract for the initial work was $49,900 and council asked town staff to solicit bids for the work at the Dec. 3 regular meeting.
More details
The Argyle Police Department currently owns four speed monitor signs that relay the driver’s current speed on the road, which are rotated periodically, according to town documents.
Police officers want five more speed monitor signs to efficiently monitor the increase in traffic as the town grows, and capture accurate historical speed data and traffic counts, per town documents. This data may be used to change the speed limit on the road, add driver warning signs and guide when police officers need to enforce the speed limit, Town Manager Mike Sims said.
The signs will be permanently placed on heavily travelled roadways including Crawford Road, Old Justin Road and Hickory Hill Road in the next 30-60 days, Sims said.
The $24,586 purchase will be funded through the crime control and prevention fund, according to town documents.

Town officials posted a bid to construct a sewer line for the Shell station and Sonic located at the intersection of Frenchtown Road and US 377.
The project is expected to cost between $544,987 and $937,291 depending on the location of the sewer line, according to town documents.
As of July 21, approximately $54,517 has been spent on engineering fees with a remaining $18,319 left for bid and construction services, according to town documents. The projected fiscal year 2025-26 wastewater utility capital fund will have adequate funding for the project, per town documents.
No bids have been received for the project and town officials expect bids to be available at the council meeting Aug. 18.
The property on Frenchtown Road and US 377 was annexed into the town Dec. 6. The agreement stated the town of Argyle will fund a sanitary sewer line and the property owner will pay property and sales tax, Community Impact previously reported.
