Flower Mound City Council voted unanimously to approve a contract to F&F Concrete and Construction for the road project at its Feb. 17 meeting.
The details
Dale Crown, a senior project engineer with Flower Mound, told council the project includes the full reconstruction of Wichita Trail from about 550 feet south of Cardinal Drive to 250 feet west of High Meadow Road. According to town documents, the existing concrete street has significant cracking in multiple locations and could get worse over time if not addressed.
The project also includes replacing deteriorating concrete panels along Wichita Trail beyond these limits. Crown said town staff didn’t have to go through a design phase for this project, saving upwards of $200,000, because that work was previously completed.
What's next?
Phase one of the project, the full reconstruction of Wichita Trail, is set to start in March. The second phase entails replacing concrete panels on either end of the street. Crown didn't say when the second phase would start, but town documents said all of the work could take about 100 days.
He said if the project is done right, the street might not need more work for decades.
