Highland Village officials provided updates on a number of projects.

The details

Traffic signal and roadway improvements at the intersection of Highland Village Road and Brazos Boulevard are almost complete, as the new signal was put into operation June 12.

This project replaces certain equipment, such as all poles, mast arms and traffic signals. The traffic signal project also includes better illumination for the intersection and backlit street name signs. A video vehicle detection has also been installed, according to a city newsletter.

“Modernizing this traffic signal will provide more efficient traffic movement through the intersection,” officials said in the newsletter. “The signal timing will be monitored closely for the next few weeks and adjustments will be made as necessary.”

What else?

An asphalt overlay project on Highland Shores Boulevard from Highland Village Road to Briarhill Boulevard has wrapped up, according to contractor Jagoe Public Company. The project also includes new pavement markings, sidewalk replacements/additions and some storm sewer replacements/additions.

“The new striping is designed to provide traffic calming by providing a lane width at a consistent 12-foot traffic lane throughout the corridor and adding a 7-foot minimum variable width bike lane to support pedestrian mobility,” officials said in the newsletter.

The section from Twin Coves Drive to FM 2499 is included in the city’s long-range planning. However, no funding source is identified for that section.
