In a nutshell: The Highland Village City Council will award a construction contract for Phase 1 of the 2023 street improvement project at its May 23 meeting, according to city officials. Nine residential roads will receive updates as part of Phase 1; more roads will receive updates at a later date as part of Phase 2.

The breakdown: The nine roads set for construction updates are Lamesa Drive, Turpin Drive, Camden Drive, Glenmere Drive, Moran Drive, Raney Drive, Catlin Circle, Catlin Terrace and Lakeland Drive. City Manager Paul Stevens said following the awarding of the bid, contractors usually take a minimum of six weeks to begin work.

The cost: The projects are funded through the 2021 bond issue. For streets, traffic signalization and drainage projects, the city has allotted approximately $9 million. The projects in phases 1 and 2 account for $3.6 million of the $9 million, according to city officials.

Quote of note: “We are very excited about beginning this street improvement program. Several of these streets have had new water or sewer lines installed, and the streets are in need of resurfacing after all of that utility work. I know the residents will be very happy to see the project fully completed,” Highland Village City Manager Paul Stevens said.
