The new Duff’s Fine Jewelry location on Long Prairie Road will receive an exterior facelift, following approval from Flower Mound Town Council for a building design exception at an Aug. 4 meeting.

In a nutshell

The design exception will allow owner Brandon Alford to add more nichiha, a fiber concrete material that mimics wood paneling, to the building’s public street-facing walls, along with changing the brick color to off-white.

Currently, the planned development that includes the building doesn't allow off-white brick for public street-facing walls, or specific building materials, including nichiha, to exceed 20% of the wall, town staff said at a July 28 planning and zoning commission meeting.

Planned developments allow for more flexible uses of space, not included in other zoning classifications, according to Flower Mound’s municipal code.

Some background

At the July meeting, Alford said the renovation’s intent is to "tie it into that Market Street look and that La Madeleine's look," referencing the nearby Market Street grocery store and french-themed La Madeleine cafe in a different planned development.

"[We’re] trying to bring it up to that urban design look," Alford said.

The commission unanimously recommended the design exception at the July 28 meeting.

Looking ahead

The building previously housed a Regions Bank branch, which has since closed. A Duff’s representative said the company plans to relocate their Flower Mound location to the former bank branch and Alford said he expects to complete construction in late October, with an opening in November.
