The Highland Village Fire Department is set to receive a new ambulance, and the city outlined a new landscaper for the FM 2499 corridor.

Council approved the purchase and contract at the March 25 meeting for a total of $612,766.

During the budget process, the Fleet Maintenance division evaluated the city’s present vehicle and equipment inventory and identified the fire department’s 2019 Type 1 Horton Ambulance met the city’s criteria for replacement, according to city documents. Evaluation criteria for equipment replacement is based on the repair history, age, hours of service and department needs.

Council members approved a purchase for a 2025 Ford F550 Type 1 Ambulance from Southern Emergency and Rescue Vehicles at a price not to exceed $446,416, which includes an $800 fee for using BuyBoard, a purchasing cooperative that the city uses to streamline purchases.

The estimated time for building and delivering the vehicle is between 20 to 24 months, according to city documents.

More details

The city also bids to outside contractors for landscape and mowing services to maintain areas such as right-of-ways, trails, trail nodes, medians and other municipal sites, including the FM 2499 corridor.

According to city documents, it is more cost-effective to bid out services for these areas that require less detailed maintenance instead of hiring additional city staff, which are better reserved for detailed needs such as performing sprinkler repairs, chemical applications, minor park construction projects, playground maintenance and special event setup.

Council approved a contract with SRH Landscapes for the FM 2499 maintenance services for $166,350.
