Tribes Church plans to build a new worship space in Argyle on a recently annexed piece of property.

What’s happening?

On March 17, Argyle Town Council approved the annexation and rezoning of nearly 1.5 acres to match the zoning of the property that Tribes Church owns on 809 FM 407 W., Argyle.

Tribes Church is proposing to build a 10,700-square-foot building on 6.96 acres, which includes the newly annexed property.

The details

Tribes Church currently holds Sunday services at Argyle West Elementary School with in-home meetings throughout the week, according to its website.

The lead pastor, Gavin Papit and his wife moved to Argyle seven years ago to start Tribes Church. It began in Hilltop Elementary before moving to Argyle West in summer 2020.

“We think the neighbors are going to really benefit [from] not having to look at the back of some industrial space next door,” Papit said. “Instead they’ll have some greenery and have a church as a buffer between what is residential to really commercial and industrial space.”

The annexed property housed a single-family home but it was recently demolished, Community Director Harrison Wicks said.

What’s next?

Staff and the applicant are in the process of creating a site plan for the church and could present it to council in April, Wicks said.
