However, according to town officials, this increased homestead exemption is not accurately reflected on Denton County residents’ tax bills.
The details
According to Flower Mound officials, it is recommended that residents pay the amount shown on their account and receive a refund at a later date from the tax assessor collector. The estimated impact per homestead household is between $30 and $120, according to a news release.
Both the Denton Central Appraisal District and the Denton County Tax Assessor have both been made aware of the issue, per the news release.
"The Denton Central Appraisal District is working diligently to update their system, but the tax assessor collector cannot provide updated bills until this is done,” the news release said.
What else?
Because of the error, each account must be changed and manually validated. It is not likely the Denton Central Appraisal District will be able to rectify all of the more than 19,000 accounts by the time property taxes are due on Jan. 31, per the news release.
Officials with the Denton Central Appraisal District did not respond to requests for comment.
