Bluebonnet Trail in Flower Mound is set for repairs after a contract was approved by town officials. Town Council members unanimously approved an over $118,888 contract for repairs to 3,250 linear feet of the trail at their meeting Dec. 16.

The details

The work will be done by Apex Concrete Construction Inc. and will consist of removing and replacing about 1,000 square yards of existing 8-foot-wide trail and associated grading and backfill, according to town documents.

Melissa Demmitt, the town’s director of communications, said the work is expected to begin in early to-mid January and last about 2-4 weeks.

Zooming in

The trail has damaged panels through Bluebonnet Park starting at Lake Forest Boulevard and ending in Town View Plaza near Long Prairie Road.

“The work was deemed necessary due to the condition of certain sections of the trail,” Demmitt said in an email.

What to expect

The contractor will only be replacing sections that are damaged or out of compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Demmitt said town officials are not anticipating the project will cause any disruptions to traffic.

However, certain sections of the trail will be closed while work is ongoing. Signage will be used to ensure people on the trail are informed of which areas are closed. The contractor plans to do the project in phases to minimize impacts to the trail.
