What’s happening?
The monthly bill will be about $21.95. That's $13.95 for trash and $8 for recycling per month, Police Chief Kirk Riggs, Bartonville's acting town administrator, said in an email. The previous provider for the town proposed $19.80 for trash and $14.65 for recycling each month.
The new waste service schedule begins Jan. 2. Residents can continue to use their old trash and recycling carts throughout the rest of December. On Dec. 30, residents can leave their old carts at the street for pick up after they’ve been serviced. New carts started being delivered Dec. 16. Residents can also call Frontier Waste Solutions to request additional carts if needed.
On pick up days, the carts should be placed at the curb with the handle facing the house. Residents should avoid placing the carts within 4 feet of any mailbox or cars.
The details
Frontier Waste Solutions was one of three companies looking to serve Bartonville. Town staff received proposals from Waste Connections, Community Waste Disposal and Frontier Waste Solutions.
Riggs said Frontier Waste Solutions was chosen over the other two companies for a number of reasons.
The company was chosen because of its three-year contract with a two-year renewal option and the ability to increase bulk pickup volume from 3 to 4 cubic yards. The company will also offer unlimited weekly trash service and a 12-step transition plan from the current service.
“They came out on top,” Riggs said of Frontier Waste Solutions.
Quote of note
“There will be some challenges,” Riggs said. “Any time you make any changes there will be challenges, but we are confident that this will definitely give the residents the service that they need with a reduced rate.”
