Flower Mound Town Council approved an agreement with the design firm in June this year. The scope of the agreement includes visits to the site and analysis of existing conditions. The design firm will also help town staff with a base map of the park's topography, public engagement with town residents and officials, and the final conceptual layout and design of the site.
The details
Town officials are now seeking input from residents about what they want changed or added to the park, Demmitt said. There will be a meeting hosted by the town at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10 in Ballroom A at the Flower Mound Senior Center where residents can provide input.
The park is located at 1850 Timber Creek Road in Flower Mound, and it has lighted tennis courts, a pavilion, connections to Pink Evening Primrose Trail, a fishing pond, picnic tables and benches. The Leonard and Helen Johns Community Park is one of ten community parks provided by the town of Flower Mound. It was named after former parks board chair and council member Leonard Johns and his wife Helen, and is intended to serve a 3-mile radius, like other community parks in the town.
What they're saying
"Parks, recreational opportunities, open space and trails continue to be a key component to the town of Flower Mound's quality of life for our residents," Demmitt said. “As the town continues to grow, the preservation of parks and open space is vital to the mental and physical health and quality of life of our residents.”
In 2021, town officials purchased 7.4 acres of land adjacent to the park from Lewisville ISD. The school district buildings that once sat on the land have been removed to make way for an extension of the Leonard and Helen Johns Community Park.
