A new company will be responsible for Bartonville residents’ solid waste and recycling starting in January 2025.

A vote by the Bartonville Town Council on Nov. 25 authorizes the mayor and town administrator to begin negotiations for trash and recycling services with the new company, Frontier Waste Solutions.

The details

At the Nov. 25 meeting, Police Chief Kirk Riggs, Bartonville's acting town administrator, presented the recommendations of town staff to contract with Frontier Waste Solutions for trash and recycling service. With the change, trash and recycling pick up will be moved from Monday to Thursday.

“Frontier Waste Solutions is locally owned and operated based in Justin, and emerged as the strongest candidate for several key reasons,” Riggs said.

He said town staff chose the company over two others because of its three-year contract with a two-year renewal option. The company was also chosen because it could increase bulk pickup volume from 3 to 4 cubic yards, offer unlimited weekly trash service and offer a 12-step transition plan from the current service, which is provided by a company called Waste Connections.

"This comprehensive approach is designed to ensure a seamless transfer of operation, minimizing disruptions, both for residents and the town,” Riggs said.

Zooming out

The town's contract with Waste Connections ends Dec. 31. Earlier this year, Bartonville council members directed staff to move forward with a request for proposals to obtain current pricing information from waste companies. Council members said they wanted companies to emphasize bulk trash collection options, the type of fuel collection trucks will use, provide quotes for available options, and include disposal options for tires and metal wheels in the request for proposals.

Town officials received proposals from Waste Connections, Community Waste Disposal and Frontier Waste Solutions, according to town documents. Council members voted unanimously to authorize the mayor and town administrator to begin negotiations on the contract immediately.

The contract will be finalized in time for the council members to vote on it at their next meeting Dec. 17. Informational material will be provided to residents to explain the changes before they happen.
