At their Nov. 18 meeting, Flower Mound Town Council members unanimously approved a specific use permit for a new Kiddie Academy.
The details
The daycare will sit on a 1.56-acre lot that is currently undeveloped and zoned for campus commercial uses, which required a specific permit to operate a daycare on the lot. Another 4,386 square feet on the property will be reserved for general office and retail uses, according to city documents.
The site will have 52 parking spaces and queuing for pick-up and drop-off will be prohibited on-site. The Kiddie Academy will have an outdoor play area surrounded by a 4-foot tall wrought iron fence.
There was no timeline given for the development of the new Kiddie Academy location, but Brian Johnston, a representative with the company, said three others could open in North Texas by the middle of next year.
What they’re saying
Johnson told council that the daycare brand is over 40 years old with more than 340 locations across 40 states. Each location is owner-operated with Kiddie Academy being the franchisor.
“We support each individual owner,” Johnston told council members at the Nov. 18 meeting. “It’s up to them to take our curriculum and run with it, which they’ve done successfully.”
At first, the new location will serve children up to five years old but there may be opportunities for before and after school programs to serve children up to 12 years old depending on the needs of Flower Mound residents.
“We’re here to build community,” Johnston said.
