A contractor for the Town of Flower Mound will begin construction later this month on the currently undeveloped 3.3-acre park at 3201 Peters Colony Road, according to a news release. The park is located just west of the Flower Mound Public Library.

The details

The project is expected to be completed in fall 2025. It will include a pavilion, veterans’ memorial area, free-standing memorial elements, a water feature, native landscaping, playground equipment, as well as nature trails and pedestrian pathways. The trails and pathways will have access to the library. Space will also be saved for an art sculpture in the future.

Funding for the project includes a $750,000 grant from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. The project will also be funded by one of the town’s tax increment reinvestment zones. The total project budget is $3,360,000, according to the town’s website.

While there likely won't be any road closures related to the project, some sidewalks may be closed along Peters Colony and Old Settlers roads while construction is underway.

Zooming in

According to the town’s website, a professional services agreement was entered into with Mesa Design Associates, Inc. for design services on the project. That agreement was approved June 15, 2020. A construction agreement was later approved by the town council on August 5.

What they’re saying

Chuck Jennings, Flower Mound parks and recreation director, said in an emailed statement that the project is an important addition to the town.

“Located next to the library and across from Flower Mound High School, the park preserves the area's rich tree canopy while providing a tranquil space for relaxation and respite,” Jennings said. “This park not only provides a quiet escape but also serves as a living tribute to Flower Mound’s heritage.”

The park will enhance the town’s trail connectivity within by directly linking to the Texas Yellow Star Trail and the sidewalk along Old Settlers Road. While the overall impact to the town’s trail system might be minimal, Jennings said it will provide access points to key locations, including the library and Flower Mound High School.

“This improved connectivity will make it easier for residents and students to access these community amenities, encouraging more walking and cycling while supporting a more integrated and accessible trail network,” Jennings said.

The park also gives the community an opportunity to honor loved ones, first responders and military heroes. The project will include what Jennings called “Legacy Monuments” where individuals can memorialize special people, alongside a dedicated children’s memorial area.

Jennings said he was excited that the project was partially being funded by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.

“This generous support not only helps bring the park to life but also underscores its importance to our community and its legacy,” Jennings said.
