Some residents in Flower Mound and Highland Village will move from saying “Oh, Christmas tree” to “It's time to go, Christmas tree” in the days after Christmas, as both municipalities will offer recycling stations for trees' disposal.

Both municipalities begin their recycling the day after Christmas, Dec. 26.

The details

In Highland Village, people may recycle their live Christmas trees at Brazos Park, 190 Brazos Blvd., through Jan. 3. People should drop off trees in the designated parking lot, and they should remove all decorations before disposal, a city news release states.

In Flower Mound, the recycling runs through Jan. 7, and residents may drop off their tree at Gerault Park, 1200 Gerault Road, to be mulched, a town news release states.

Zooming in

Flower Mound Parks and Recreation crews will recycle trees each day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Trees must not be flocked, and all nails and decorations must be removed.

In addition, lumber and trash will not be accepted, and residents who would like to keep some of the mulch should bring their own containers for transportation.

Town leaders said people may also dispose of their trees by putting them at the curb on their regular trash day for Republic Services to collect. Residents should make sure to double check the tree for any ornaments before they are put out for pickup.
