Police officers will see a small increase in their pay as Argyle Town Council on Oct. 16 approved a pay plan.

Council approved a fiscal year 2023-24 pay plan for sworn police officer positions. The FY 2023-24 budget included a 3% market increase for the base step plan for police officers. Staff requested council approve the fiscal year 2023-24 pay plan in accordance with the approved budget effective Oct. 1, a council agenda memo stated.

The details

Pay for a police recruit is set at $61,250, while a new sworn officer—step zero, or beginning pay—will make $70,568. A beginning police corporal will make $86,864, and a new police sergeant will make $94,436. The step plan includes increases for officers and sergeants from step one through nine, while corporals’ pay goes through step four.

Council approved changing its regular meeting times from 6 p.m. to 5 p.m. Council meets on the third Monday of every month. Town Administrator Erika McComis said because of the packed agendas with the council meeting once a month, this move will help council have more time to discuss issues and get business accomplished during meetings.

Also, after an executive session, council approved appointing Assistant Town Secretary Candi Smith as town secretary with Mayor Rick Bradford to negotiate her contract.
