Flower Mound Town Council approved the renewal of the town’s insurance coverage during its Dec. 5 meeting.

The council approved a contract with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas for $1.48 million for reinsurance coverage for the town’s Group Health Plan.

The town is self-insured for health, dental and vision benefits for employees and dependents covered on the town’s group health insurance plan, according to the agenda.

Town officials purchase reinsurance to limit liability from any single participant's claims to $165,000 per year, according to the agenda. The reinsurance also limits the total aggregate insurance claims for all employees during any calendar year.

This is an annual item, but it was on the council’s regular agenda, because it surpassed $1 million, Town Manager James Childers said.
