Zooming in
The new stadium is 29 days behind schedule due to weather delays, according to Davis’ report. Most of the construction requires working from a boom lift 120 feet in the air, which, when coupled with rain and high winds, poses a safety risk to workers, Davis said.
"If you can imagine being in a boom lift 120 feet in the air the way our winds were, you just don't get a lot done," Davis said.
Despite the delays, construction on two of the three concession stands began in April, according to district documents. The visitor grandstand started construction the week of May 19, and press box construction started in March, according to Davis' report.
Davis said he expects to install the stadium’s home grandstand in late June, and start construction on the Indoor Activity Center over the next few weeks.
More details
The gyms, tennis courts and a storm shelter are under construction at the district's new middle school on FM 407, Davis said. The school's football field is also completed.
The construction crew is currently pouring concrete throughout the site, and Davis said he expects the middle school to reach substantial completion in July 2026, which will be followed by furniture installations.
Looking ahead
AISD Chief Communications Officer Rick Herrin said possible completion dates for the new stadium are in November or December 2025 in an emailed statement. At the meeting, Davis said construction crews are trying to make up for lost time, but high-altitude nature of the construction makes it difficult to work more quickly.
"85% of the work is in a 6,000-square-foot space, 120 feet elevated in the air, and there's only so many men you can put in that space, and do it in a safe manner, " Davis said. "We're looking into every avenue to accelerate, but we're very cautious of the fact that we need to do it in a safe way."
