The district and the City of Lewisville executed an interlocal agreement in December to construct a community park at Hedrick Middle School in which LISD would provide the playground. Trustees approved the project budget and architect selection at the March 17 board meeting.
The details
During the design of the middle school, a small portion off Bellaire Boulevard was set aside in anticipation of building the park, Executive Director of Construction Randy Fite said when presenting the project for board review March 3.
Safety and security will be a primary design element of the park. District officials selected VLK Architects for design of the project. Surplus playground and shade structure funds from the 2023 bond will be allocated for the design and construction and the overall budget for the project is $660,000, Fite said.
Going forward
Now that the board has approved the project district officials will begin design work with VLK Architects and will bring forward contractor selections at a future board meeting, according to district documents.
