Freezing temperatures hit the Dallas-Fort Worth area as Argyle ISD students return from winter break and families might need to brace for potential closures this week.

What to know

The National Weather service has issued a winter storm watch starting the night of Jan. 8 through Jan. 10 with temperatures as low 27 degrees and chances of snow and sleet. According to weather service data, snow is most likely to fall Jan. 9.

AISD maintains an inclement weather procedure webpage. It states that in the event of severe weather the district monitors the National Weather Service and local meteorologist forecasts as well as weather and road conditions and their impact on staff and students safety. The district also receives regular updates and alerts from the Denton County Office of Emergency Management, according to the webpage.

Should schools close the district will notify families by early morning the day of closure. The webpage states the district will use the following platforms to make the announcement:
  • Parent email and text notifications through the district's mass notification system.
  • Weather alerts on the district website
  • The district’s social media platforms, Facebook, X/Twitter and Instagram
  • Local television and radio stations
Also of note

In the event that severe weather occurs during the school day, the district will ensure students and staff in secure locations and then communicate updates to parents. The district requests parents to not come to school buildings in the middle of a storm to pick up their children.
