The new zones will help the district transition into two high schools and multiple middle schools amid rapid growth, district officials say. The district anticipates to serve over 11,000 students by 2033-24, nearly double its current student population.
The details
In the proposed plan reviewed Nov. 18, most neighborhoods west of US 377 would be zoned to the upcoming FM 407 middle school and Argyle High School at Canyon Falls.
Neighborhoods east of US 377 would be zoned to Argyle Middle School on US 377 until an additional middle school is built in 2029, and the US 377 campus transitions into a high school. Once this occurs, those neighborhoods will be zoned to the new middle school and the US 377 high school, according to documents.
One section in the Hilltop neighborhood west of US 377 will also be zoned to these campuses. The board voted to adopt this plan with one change, neighborhoods in the Bonnie Brae Road and the Vintage Boulevard area in the north of the district will be zoned to the US 377 campuses in the eastern zone, according to district documents.
The new middle school and high school attendance zones would begin to take effect in the fall of 2026, when the middle school on FM 407 opens, according to district documents. As new schools open and the district transitions to two high schools starting in 2027 through 2029, the respective students will adhere to the new high school zones.
Some context
In the district’s growth plan, the district will transition to two middle schools in the 2026-27 school year and two high schools in the 2027-28 school year.
Argyle Middle School on US 377 once served as the district’s high school before Argyle High School opened in the 2021-22 school year. The district plans to open a second middle school on FM 407 in 2026 and turn the US 377 campus back into a high school in 2027 to provide enrollment relief. Starting in 2027, the US 377 campus will begin to serve high school students alongside its middle school student enrollment with more high school grades to be added each year until it can serve as a dedicated high school in 2029.
The FM 407 campus, which broke ground this summer, was part of the 2022 bond and is the catalyst for both the high school and middle school transitions. In the 2026-27 school year, seventh and eighth graders will be zoned to both the FM 407 and US 377 campuses. To facilitate this transition a future bond would be needed by 2025 to allocate funds to purchase land for the other middle school to be opened by 2029, as previously reported by Community Impact.
More details
At the Dec. 16 meeting the school board also finalized the purchase of 35 acres of the Furst Ranch development along US 377. This deal includes the option to accept an additional 15 acres adjacent to the purchased land for a combined 50-acre site to be used for future schools, according to district documents.
These land tracts are in the Flower Mound portion of Furst Ranch along frontage acreage on the east side of US 377. The land was purchased for $9.6 million using 2022 bond funds. AISD plans for the property include a future middle school and elementary school.
“We are grateful to those in our communities that voted for the 2022 bond that helped make this land purchase for school facilities possible,” board President Sam Slaton said. “We are also grateful for Jack Furst's generous 15-acre land donation to the district. As we continue to grow and look towards the future, it is exciting to know that this partnership has helped secure a site location for many future Argyle students.”
This Furst Ranch development includes 2,300 acres at the intersection of FM 1171 and US 377 within AISD. Construction is underway, and the first phase includes 1,000 homes. The district expects students from Furst Ranch to begin enrolling in 2026 or 2027.
