The Lewisville ISD board of trustees unanimously approved the sale of surplus property at a March 18 meeting.

The property is an almost 24-acre pasture at the corner of Rocky Point Drive and Sunset Trail in Flower Mound. The district did not anticipate using the property for future educational purposes and considered it no longer necessary, according to district documents.

The details

The sale will provide additional revenue to the district and eliminate the need to maintain the property. The district has owned the land since at least 2013, according to documents. A 2023 appraisal listed the property’s market value at $4.22 million, according to data from the Denton Central Appraisal District.

School boards across Texas districts may issue resolutions authorizing the sale of any property, other than minerals, held in trust for public school purposes, according to the Texas Education Code. At the sale’s closing the board president will execute a deed to the purchaser of the property reciting the board’s resolution.
