Elementary school number four in Argyle ISD now has an official name: Jane Ruestmann Elementary.

The details

The Argyle ISD board of trustees voted to name the school Jane Ruestmann Elementary at their regular meeting Dec. 18. As a teacher, Ruestmann served the district for more than 30 years.

According to district documents, district officials solicited recommendations from the community to name the next elementary school. There were 12 submissions, nine of which met the criteria described in the board’s policy manual.

District documents states administrative officials reviewed the nine qualified submissions and narrowed it down to the following:
  • Argyle North Elementary
  • Argyle Ridgeview Elementary
  • Harvest Ridge Elementary
  • North Ridge Elementary
  • Jane Ruestmann Elementary
Zooming in

Jane Ruestmann Elementary will absorb students from both Argyle South and Argyle West as well as a portion of students from Hilltop Elementary, which is located east of I-35W.

Under the proposed rezone, students living in the Harvest by Hillwood housing development near I-35W who were enrolled at Argyle South will attend Jane Ruestmann Elementary as well those in the northern and northwestern portions of the Argyle West zone near Old Justin Road, according to a district zoning map.

Put in perspective

According to district documents, Argyle South and Argyle West each have a capacity of 850 students. Enrollment for each school in the 2024-25 school year is projected to rise to 1,050 students. Without adding Jane Ruestmann Elementary, those numbers increase to 2,110 and 1,718, respectively, by 2033.

With the addition of Jane Ruestmann Elementary and paired with the administration’s new recommended zones, next year's estimates drop to 781 students for Argyle South and 628 for Argyle West, said Zonda Education consultant Hudson Huff. This combined action holds off the need for student population relief until the 2026-27 school year for Argyle South and 2028-29 for Argyle West.
