The details
The opening of Jane Ruestmann Elementary in August 2024 is only one of several factors that required the board to rezone elementary school boundaries. According to district documents, other factors include:
- Providing relief to Argyle South and Argyle West elementary schools
- Adjusting attendance boundaries to accommodate increased enrollment numbers due to existing and future developments
- Minimizing the impact to students and families enrolled in AISD schools
- Aligning with the long-term boundary and facility plans for the district
A closer look
District documents state two grandfather options are included in this recommendation.
With the first, students in homes east of I-35 and north of Old Justin would be allowed to go to Jane Ruestmann Elementary or select a one-time grandfather to remain at Hilltop Elementary until a new rezone happens or the family vacates the property. Families living in houses on the following streets will have that option:
- C. Taylor Road
- Knob Hill Court
- John Wells Court
- Cimarron Court
- Surrey Lane
- Skyline Drive
- Valley View Court
- Sunset Court
- Skyridge Drive
- One home on Crawford Road
- Homes on the east side of Sunflower to the south side of 16th Street to the west side of Harvest Way
- Trellis Drive
- Stepping Stone Trail
Families and staff who may be affected by the rezoning will need to take action now and in the next few weeks. According to district documents, action items include:
- Prior to the break: Internal voluntary staffing transfer forms for teachers only will be sent out.
- Upon returning from the break: Families within the recommended grandfather areas will receive notification from the district with directions to complete their choice. Once the choice is made it cannot be reversed by the family.
- January-March: Staffing allocations for all campuses will be finalized.
- January-May: Principal Lauren Tullos will lead the staffing process and begin meeting with families and staff attending Jane Ruestmann Elementary.
