Del Campo Empanadas

Andrea Karina Cacho and her husband, Leonardo Gigante, opened Del Campo Empanadas when the demand for her empanadas outgrew what she could produce from her home kitchen.

“I was on my neighborhood Facebook page, and a lady was selling pies,” Cacho said. “I said, ‘I would like to buy a pie and help her out.’ Then I said, ‘Oh! I can make empanadas!’”

For the next two years, her home business continued to grow, and in 2020 they opened their first Del Campo Empanadas in Fort Worth. They opened their second location Feb. 4, 2023, in Flower Mound.Uncle Mike’s Bistro

Valarie Gross said that before she and Mike Gross got married in 2010, they knew they wanted to open a business together.

“We knew we wanted to work together forever,” Valarie Gross said.

In October 2020, the entrepreneurial couple bought Coffee Tree Cafe in Argyle, and six months later they changed the business name to Uncle Mike’s Bistro.

Mike Gross said when they bought the business, they immediately added menu items that were more bistro in nature, such as paninis and wraps. However, longtime customers and those returning for the first time under the new ownership were requesting a variety of coffees and cupcakes, which were top sellers under previous ownership.Snooty Pig Cafe

As the son of a restaurateur, Brandon Bunn said he grew up around the business. At the age of 21, Bunn used the industry knowledge passed down from his dad and opened up the Snooty Pig Cafe in 2001.

Bunn's first Snooty Pig Cafe was in the Grapevine/Colleyville area. In 2011, he opened a second location in Highland Village. He closed the Grapevine/Colleyville location in 2022 after choosing not to renew the lease. There is another Snooty Pig Cafe in Argyle that is owned by his father, Blake Bunn.Vieux Carre

Carrie Britton wanted a relatable type of French restaurant when she decided to open her new diner in Flower Mound.

Vieux Carre—pronounced "voo cuh-ray"—comes from Britton’s favorite cocktail as well as her first name Carrie in French. The restaurant, which also means old square in French, opened in August 2023 at Parker Square.

Director of Operations Tina Swaney and General Manager Danielle Scott said the the restaurant offers an extensive wine list and a menu with French and some Mediterranean flair.

“[Britton] wanted to bring fun French cuisine,” Swaney said about the restaurant founder, who owns a restaurant in Lubbock and has her third restaurant under construction in Dallas. “It’s not stuffy French—it’s more fun French.”Snowy Bingsu

When husband-and-wife team Sunny Choi and Jimmy Kim bought Snowy Bingsu in June, they brought with them cultural and industry knowledge.

Choi said she grew up in Korea where bingsu, a shaved ice cream, is popular. Prior to buying Snowy Bingsu, the couple owned a fried chicken restaurant in Garland, a Korean restaurant in Denton, and they still own and operate Daylight Donuts in Frisco.

The reason the Flower Mound couple bought the 7-year-old business is twofold—Choi said she wanted to own a business that was close to home and to fill a void.

“This is the only place that serves Korean food in Flower Mound,” Choi said. “I plan on adding Korean street food to the menu in the fall.”Shoal Creek Tavern

As the current owner of three local restaurants, Jim Verfurth puts his Culinary Institute of America culinary arts degree to good use. He said he has spent his entire life in the food and beverage industry—from the kitchen, to front of the house, to operations management.

In addition to owning Shoal Creek Tavern in The Shops at Highland Village, Verfurth also owns Lambeau’s American Kitchen and Tavern, also in The Shops at Highland Village, and Verf’s Grill & Tavern in Flower Mound.

Prior to culinary school, Verfurth said his mother taught him to cook when he was a child.

“She was always making, shaking and baking something,” he said. “I love to eat. So we were a good team.”
