When husband and wife team Sunny Choi and Jimmy Kim bought Snowy Bingsu in June they brought with them cultural and industry knowledge.

Choi said she grew up in Korea where Bingsu, a shaved ice cream, is popular. Prior to buying Snowy Bingsu, the couple owned a fried chicken restaurant in Garland, a Korean restaurant in Denton and they still own and operate Daylight Donuts in Frisco.

The context

The reason the Flower Mound couple bought the seven-year-old business is twofold—Choi said she wanted to own a business that was close to home and to fill a void.

“This is the only place that serves Korean food in Flower Mound,” Choi said. “I plan on adding Korean street food to the menu in the fall.”

What’s on the menu

In addition to 20 Bingsu flavors, the Korean-inspired menu also features 20 types of smoothies, a variety of boba and iced teas and taiyaki, which is a pastry with sweet and savory filling options.

“The strawberry Bingsu is most popular because it is very fresh. We cut up strawberries every day,” Choi said.

A healthy option is injeolmi, which is made from a bean powder. It is an authentic, traditional Korean Bingsu.

Quote of note

“A lot of the customers I get come in looking for boba, they’ve never heard of Bingsu before,” Lois Kim, Choi and Jimmy Kim’s daughter said. “When they see it they ask what it is and we explain it's a shaved ice cream. That intrigues them because they’ve never had it before. They try it then come back for it.”
