Local eateries are in the news. Here is a few dining updates from around Flower Mound and Highland Village.

1. The Flower Mound Town Council on April 3 unanimously approved an ordinance to allow a Whataburger and two other restaurants to be constructed. Those restaurants also include a Slim Chickens restaurant and a Dutch Bros coffee establishment, all located south of Sagebrush Drive and west of Long Prairie Road.

Construction will begin on the Whataburger this summer, and all three restaurants could be built and open as soon as spring 2024.

2. Underdogs Burgers & Brews is open at the former location of Scout Riverwalk at 4110 River Walk Drive, Flower Mound. The restaurant offers American cuisine—including burgers and salads, among other specialities—and takes pride in making food from scratch.

The restaurant is open seven days a week with a brunch being served soon on Saturdays and Sundays. Underdogs' hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays; it will open for brunch at 9 a.m. beginning April 8.

3. Ben & Jerry's Highland Village location passed out free ice cream April 3.

“The Plano and Highland Village Scoop Shops partnered with the Susan G. Komen Foundation to benefit from much of the local excitement and energy around Free Cone Day,” the ice cream shop said in a press release.

The Highland Village location is located at 4061 Barton Creek at the Shops at Highland Village.
