The details
San-Antonio-based grocer H-E-B closed on 22.8 acres in the Furst Ranch mixed-use development at the end of June, said Mabrie Jackson, a spokesperson for H-E-B.
“We look forward to serving more Texans as we continue to expand across North Texas,” Jackson said in an email.
The background
Flower Mound Town Council approved a parking exception for the proposed grocery store in May. The exception allows for up to 733 parking spaces for a store with a footprint of around 110,000 square feet.
The preliminary concept plan submitted to the town also included a fuel station. Based on parking estimates presented to town officials, the 733 spaces will be similar to other stores in Frisco, Plano and Alliance.
The store will be located within Furst Ranch, a 2,300-acre mixed-use development that will have 3,000 single-family homes, 6,000 multifamily housing units, retail and parks.
Quote of note
“These are exciting next steps in bringing H-E-B to Flower Mound," Director of Economic Development Ray Watson said in an email. "They have landed among the top requested retailers in the town’s retail survey for a number of years, and it’s very satisfying to see a project that residents have been asking for one step closer to the finish line. H-E-B, along with a number of other top survey targets, will give western Flower Mound and the surrounding communities the amenities they’ve been lacking for a long time.”
Looking ahead
There is no timeline for the start of construction for the new store, Jackson said.
Infrastructure for the first phase of Furst Ranch is expected to begin construction in October and wrap up in April, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Construction of the first phase of homes within the development is expected to start in 2027.
