Modern Blu has completed more than 1,500 kitchen and bath remodels since opening in 2019, Marketing Director Kyle Bailey said.

Founder Rick Payne started the Flower Mound-based remodeling and construction company after starting, and selling, two other remodeling and construction businesses. The company operates around Lake Grapevine and the northern area of the Metroplex.

The company’s mission is to “make people happy,” through improving how residents interact with their home. Modern Blu is a Good Contractors verified business and a Nextdoor Neighborhood Favorite.

“We really want to make people happy,” Payne said. “We’re overextending ourselves and making sure our customers are happy and making sure things are done correctly.”

The company primarily serves Corinth, Flower Mound, Coppell, Grapevine, Southlake, Copper Canyon, Colleyville, Highland Village and Denton, Bailey said. The company has a by-appointment showroom at 5810 Long Prairie Road.

What they offer

In addition to bathroom and kitchen remodels, Modern Blu specializes in bigger, more complicated jobs like whole-home remodels, room additions and moving walls and pipes, Bailey said. “And we do roofs, a lot of roofs,” Payne added.

Bailey said one of their most common jobs is remodeling and opening walls in galley kitchens to add more workable space.

Bailey mentioned a job the company recently completed where contractors removed most of a wall in a galley kitchen, opening up the space between the kitchen and living room, and creating a kitchen island, adding space to move.

“The family’s ability to operate in the kitchen and interact with anyone in the living room is now completely revolutionized because we’re able to open up the homes in that way,” Bailey said. “That's really the beauty of what we get to do every day, is we get to change the way a person experiences their home.”

The company is equipped to execute high-end remodels with functional, long-lasting building materials, Bailey said.

Also of note

Modern Blu uses a unique organizational structure where the salespeople also manage the remodeling projects, and frequently visit the job sites. Most construction businesses have a sales team separate from production, which can cause overselling and communication errors, Payne said.

“Our sales people are the same ones that run the jobs,” he said.

Having the sales staff also handle the project management streamlines communication between the clients and the company, Payne added.

“It definitely helps with communication because you’re the single point of contact from the beginning to end,” said Jill DeYoung, a member of Modern Blu’s sales, design and project management staff.

Looking ahead

Payne said the company is looking to expand and install more showrooms, with an emphasis in expanding eastward, deeper into Frisco, Bailey said.
