The background
The company approached the Flower Mound Planning and Zoning Commission on July 24 with site plans for a 51,391-square-foot location on a vacant 5.33-acre lot at 1805 Justin Road, per the commission agenda. Tesla is requesting exceptions for underground utilities and architectural standards on the project. The commission approved the application with a 6-0 vote.
The details
In addition to selling vehicles, the dealership will also house a service center that will include software updates, tire and bolt replacements, and tire balancing. It also will offer battery inspections, but battery replacement will only occur on an “as-needed basis,” and it will not offer battery repair, according to a Tesla letter included in the agenda.
In the letter, Tesla outlined the store hours as 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and noon-6 p.m. Sundays and service hours as 8 a.m.-7 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays. An opening date has not been announced.
What's next?
A section of power lines in front of the lot’s access road must be removed prior to building construction at a cost of $63,095.54, according to the agenda. Flower Mound City Council will review the site plan in an upcoming meeting. www.tesla.com
