Parents will now pay a transaction processing fee for online payments to Frisco ISD, a fee that was formerly covered by the district. As part of the final budget recommendations for the 2017-18 school year budget, the district made a decision to eliminate funding for the transaction fees that they paid for accepting online payments and passed it on to the consumer. In 2014, FISD partnered with MyPaymentsPlus, a one-stop-shop service for parents to make payments for all school-related payments, such as lunch fees, sports fees and parking passes. Amanda McCune, FISD executive director of communications, said in an email that this is not a new fee. “It’s a credit card processing fee that the district has been paying on behalf of parents since we implemented the [MyPaymentsPlus] system,” she said. “As part of the priorities-based budget process this year, the recommendation by the priority-based budget stakeholders committee was made to save $200,000 by no longer covering the fee and passing it on to parents instead.” McCune said that parents do have other options to pay in person by check or cash to avoid processing fees. Other budget recommendations that were made and will be implemented include a pay-to-play fee that will charge middle school athletes $100 and high school athletes $200. The 2017-18 budget was approved by the board of trustees in June.
