The University of North Texas opened a new satellite campus in Hall Office Park this month.

The new campus accommodates 500 students and focuses on business communication and technology bachelor’s degree programs. The university leased 36,600 square feet of office space in Hall Office Park.

UNT President Neal Smatresk said the satellite campus would be the beginning of perhaps a permanent campus in Frisco.

Smatresk said he wants the university to have a strong presence in North Texas and sees Frisco as the city to do that.

“We all know that Frisco is a super hot area,” Smatresk said in a previous Community Impact Newspaper article. “We know there are a lot of tech companies, we know it’s one of the fastest-growing regions, and we feel like we’re the institution of choice in North Texas, and we ought to have a footprint there.”

UNT also partners with Collin College at its Higher Education Center, which offers junior- and senior-level college classes and graduate degrees from four-year universities.

Smatresk said the move to Frisco would have no effect on UNT’s partnership with Collin College.

Collin College President Neil Matkin said he looks forward to a continued partnership with UNT.

“We just want to be a good partner, and we’ve put that on the table for every university we’ve spoken to, and we’re going to work with them in a positive way,” Matkin said.
