Frisco ISD board of trustees approved new attendance zones Dec. 14 for four new schools and four existing schools for the 2016-17 school year. The new schools—Lebanon Trail High School, Nelson Middle School, Vaughn Elementary School and Miller Elementary School—will open in 2016. In October, FISD presented zoning proposals for each new school. The plans also included modifications to existing schools Comstock, Ashley, Curtsinger and Smith Elementary Schools attendance zones. The FISD rezoning process has been a topic of high interest in the last couple months in Frisco. Adjusting attendance boundaries is an annual process for the district to balance enrollment to keep up with the small schools model. Frisco parents voiced their concerns against the district’s plans during this year's process. Groups of parents submitted petitions against the plans and also submitted their own proposals for the district to consider. FISD held a special meeting Dec. 1 to present updated plans to some of the attendance zones based on the parents' proposals. Richard Wilkinson, deputy superintendent for Business Services, said the updated recommendations will provide more time for the district to monitor growth and development in new neighborhoods.
