FISD rezoning boundaries At a Oct. 19 meeting, Frisco ISD proposed the following attendance boundaries for its high schools to accommodate for the 2016 opening of Lebanon Trail High School[/caption]

Proposed attendance zones for 2016-17 that would impact more than 3,000 students were presented at the regular meeting of the Frisco ISD board of trustees on Oct. 19.

New schools opening in 2016 are Lebanon Trail High School, Nelson Middle School Miller Elementary and Vaughn Elementary.

FISD administration said during the meeting that on average the school opens about four new schools every year to keep up with the fast growth and to continue with their small school model.

“People are moving here because of the small schools model philosophy we’ve adopted and we’re also one of the fastest growing school districts,” FISD Superintendent Jeremy Lyon said. “So we need to build more schools keep up with the growth and with that philosophy.”

In addition to rezoning for the new schools there are also proposed modifications to existing school zones.

For Holly Cannatelli, this would the fourth time her neighborhood the Cascades at Stonebridge Ranch would be changing schools.

The Cascades is proposed be split up with some students staying at Comstock Elementary while others are moved to Ashley Elementary to relieve Comstock.

“I just think it’s frustrating that they look at us just as a number,” she said. “We want to keep our neighborhood together.”

Cannatelli said she supports the district and is even part of the PTA.

But she said she finds it difficult that she doesn’t know what high school her daughter will be attending so her family can begin showing school spirit. She said thinks they might be losing that sense of tradition.

Frisco administrators said they understood parents are upset and wished they didn’t have to constantly rezone students, but Frisco continues to grow and the district needs to accommodate that growth.

FISD will host public hearings during a regular school board meeting Nov. 9 in which parents can give their input on the proposed attendance zones.
