Frisco ISD student performance on State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness is above state average, according to preliminary results.
During the FISD board of trustees' Aug. 10 meeting, Gary Nye, director of Assessment and Accountability, presented a report that showed FISD’s passing and advanced performance on STARR compared with scores statewide.
In all areas, FISD scored higher than the state average, and Nye said between 2014 and 2015 scores increased more than 32 points. Although scores for social studies and English II lowered by about 3-5 percent, FISD scores remained higher than state average.
FISD meets state standards
On Aug. 7, the Texas Education Agency released the 2015 accountability ratings and FISD met state standards.
FISD did not receive any distinctions, but several individual campuses did.
The accountability system looks at four different areas of student performance: student achievement, student progress, closing performance gaps and postsecondary readiness. In 2014, FISD met state standards.
Board President Anne McCausland said while the board and district is excited about the scores and ratings it is only a small fraction of the FISD’s success.
“It’s not just about test scores for us; it’s about the whole school,” she said.
