The board of trustees approved a $389.9 million budget for the 2014–15 school year while maintaining the current tax rate of $1.46 per $100 of property valuation.

All employees received a 3 percent raise, and the budget also reflects a starting teacher salary of $47,500, which is a $1,000 increase.

Officials budgeted for a 13.25 percent increase in spending compared with the 2013–14 adopted budget, with the largest increase attributed to the cost of opening five new schools.

An additional $15 million was allocated for new personnel.

Another $7.8 million went to fund additional teachers and personnel to address the district growth.

District officials have projected taxable values to increase by $2.3 billion, or 12.9 percent in the coming fiscal year.

The district is preparing to add about 3,650 students in the 2014–15 school year—a 7.9 percent increase—for a total enrollment of close to 50,000 students.
