The Brass Tap

Three local residents are looking to bring a new concept to Frisco—an upscale craft beer and wine bar, called The Brass Tap.

The Brass Tap locations feature about 300 varieties of on-tap and bottled beers along with wine and a selection of food.

Frisco resident Vidya Gounder along with longtime Dallas-Fort Worth-area friends Dev Govindaswamy and Nandakumar Palaniswamy decided to open their own bar after spending years going out for drinks after work in their information technology jobs.

"We've had a 10-year passion for craft beer," Gounder said. "Being in the Frisco area, there really aren't that many options."

While the three have management experience they do not have restaurant experience, and Gounder said The Brass Tap was on the top of the list when they began looking for a franchise to partner with.

The Brass Tap's mix of a sports bar/craft beer bar is intimate enough to appeal to both families and patrons looking for a social hangout, he said.

"Frisco is a great place to be because there are so many young people and families looking for a place to go," Gounder said.

Although the owners have not yet settled on a Frisco location, they have been looking at multiple sites in their search, said Peter Petrosian, The Brass Tap chief development officer.

"We're committed to Frisco," he said.

Because they have not yet found a location to lease, Petrosian said the timeline is still unclear, but if the lease is signed sometime in April The Brass Tap could open in Frisco by December.

"It's a place for after work, a place to connect with the community," Petrosian said. "The Brass Tap has the infrastructure support of a chain but is integrated into the community."

The Brass Tap was founded by Jeff Martin in 2008 in Tampa, Florida. There are currently 17 locations operating in Florida, Texas, Wisconsin, Arizona, Illinois and Ohio with another 50 openings planned.

The chain has two locations operating in Texas—in Fort Worth and Round Rock. Other Texas locations are under construction in Allen, San Antonio and Tyler.
